Native American Storyteller

You know when you look in your closet and see two items of clothing that you never thought to put together, and then when you do it seems like they should have been paired together before, and how could you not see how well they go together, like seriously? Ha. Well, that happened today as I was putting this outfit together. This skirt has a lot of potential, you know.
After having been to all my classes so far this semester, people have been asking me how school has been going. And my answer: overwhelming. This shouldn't be my answer so early in the game. See, I'm taking two classes that are at the same time, and I really love telling people that I can do this because of the Time-Turner I inherited. (I actually just have a pretty neat teacher who's letting me take his class without having to be there, as long as I turn in the projects on time.) Anyway, I'm taking 15 credits, which may not be a big deal to most students, but in the art department it's kinda brutal! At least for me, anyway. I have to start thinking about stuff for my BFA show, which will hopefully be next semester! And it's pretty intimidating. But I'll live. I'll make it through somehow. I always have.

Black, White, Purple

So here we have a glimpse of the exterior of our new apartment building.
A whole lot of dirt.
I told you it was ugly.
But outdoor photos beat indoor photos.
It's not too bad, right?

This may be the new location for outfit photos. Or maybe not? I'm still a little too shy around these new people to be out with my tripod taking photos of myself every now and then (Ryan took these ones). Know what I mean?? Anyway, onto my life: A lot of organizing still needs to be done at this new place of ours. I'm thinking of getting another bookshelf and we need need need a desk for the spare room and a new dining table. Ours is pitiful. Also, Big Lots may be a new favorite place of mine (a bookshelf, Christmas tree, hamper, trashcan, and a couple of boxes of cereal all for under $100?) and Craig's list people NEVER reply to your emails.

Happy Monday~

Laura and Spencer

I've known Laura for a few years now. We met at church and she just started talking to me, like nothing! She treats everyone as an automatic friend. I've always known her to be a very happy, positive person. I didn't think she could get more smiley... that is, until I saw her interact with her fiance!
As you can see, they can't keep their eyes off of each other! I'm so happy for her. And I enjoyed taking these photos a whole lot.

Back to School

The school seemed incredibly empty today.
Of course, I only had one class today, so that might be the reason.
I had plans to photograph this outfit before it got dark, but then I ended up staying at the institute for a couple of hours and chatting it up with an old friend about Glee, Once Upon a Time, Jane By Design, Pretty Little Liars, Switched at Birth, Bones, Doctor Who, school woes, successful photographers, and crazy coworkers. So by the time I got home I just felt like eating and napping and watching New Girl and The Mindy Project.
It's a hard life, really.

Update + Lately

Oh hey, remember me? It's seems like I haven't blogged in ages. I was moving! To a much bigger apartment! Thus, we went without internet for about a week.
I'm having trouble finding new spots for outfit photos. The surrounding areas of our apartment building are pretty...ugly.... And we haven't really gotten into a groove yet since our schedules are pretty sporadic. But. School starts tomorrow, and we will soon have a normal(ish) schedule. Anyway, I decided to test out the lighting in our bedroom, and it has proven to be worthy (for now).

So, some things as of late:
1. I'm really happy with all the space this apartment provides. Lots of closet space!
2. Ryan has begun working at H&R Block again for the tax season.
3. Student loans are both beautiful and horrific.
4. I need to cut my hair.
5. I saw an elderly lady at the post office who dropped her purse and legitimately said, "Fiddlesticks!" As though it were a real curse word. It made my day.
6. I have gained weight during the holidays and I cannot find the motivation to get to the gym.
7. I've decided to host my own Galentine's Day next month. I'm sure it won't be as legendary as Leslie Knope's, though.
8. Green smoothies green smoothies green smoothies.

Snow Day

It snowed yesterday! It'll all be gone by the weekend so I forced myself to get out and photograph. And hey, it's my first outfit post of the year :) I'm glad to live in a place where snow is such a treat. I had doubts that it would snow at all this winter.

White Elephant

Ah yes, the annual Houpt white elephant gift exchange. There were sixteen participants and twice as many gifts. Maybe more than double....
There is a long running joke about this gift exchange and Chumbawamba CDs. I think Ryan initially began it. There must have been about seven of these CDs this year. We're pretty sure that the only reason Hasting keeps them in stock is because of this lot.
I was planing on taking photos of the outfit I was wearing on New Year's Eve, but I somehow didn't get around to it. You can see the velvet dress in the above shot, though!
I have been feeling really lazy about outfit photos in general! It must be the cold weather that's getting to me. And guess what! It's snowing outside! It's a very exciting thing for southern New Mexico, okay? I'm trying to convince myself to get out there and take photos today while we have a tiny winter wonderland of a day, so we'll see!

I hope you all had a great beginning to the new year. I've been happy to not have to cook these past few days; we have so much leftover holiday food from our parents :)
